Winter Snowshoeing

Ah, the joy of snowshoeing... if you're a hiker in the summer, then you're a snowshoer in the winter. Have you tried modern snowshoes? If you haven't, you should. If you have, let's take your snowshoeing one step further. We've got so many trails to choose from. From easy to downright vigorous... all in the wilderness, in the heart of the Colorado Rockies.

The highlight of winter snowshoeing is the abundance of animal tracks. We can teach you how to interpret them, which is useful knowledge that you can use for a lifetime. We frequently see tracks from elk, coyote, red fox, weasel, porcupine, squirrels, and sometimes bobcat. Wildlife is also more viewable in the winter, as they are forced out of the high mountains by deep snow. Elk, deer, procupine, squirrels and many types of birds are commonly seen on our outings.

Snowshoeing with Trail Wise means being out in nature with family and good friends, smiles over a picnic lunch in the sunshine, with privacy and solitude that only the forest can provide. Relax and let your true selves come alive.

Adventure Snowshoeing - Play amongst the peaks! So your idea of a good time is a vigorous climb 2000' up a mountainside, and a vista at the top that you've earned? Welcome to Trail Wise Guides - We too are into high altitude fun! We're a year-round guide service where peaks and ridges aren't just a summertime treat - you can go in the winter on snowshoes!

These trips are for physically-fit adventuresome hikers, and will take you well above timberline. Windy, cold, blue sky, knock-your-socks off beautiful. Nothing technical, just a good solid climb, and a great powder downhill. It's a great way to feel like you've really seen Colorado.

We provide: Snowshoes, poles, gaiters or overboots, lunch, water, fanny pack or day pack.

Guides carry: extra hats, gloves, first aid kit, cell phone, picnic blanket, binoculars, sunscreen, duct tape, and more!

You Should Bring: Good walking shoes or hiking boots, a windbreaker or Gore-Tex shell, a hat for shade, sunglasses, and your camera. It is ideal to dress in layers (ex. Poly-pro long underwear, thin fleece top, Gore-Tex shell, nylon pants). Put your jacket in your daypack for the uphill; put it on at lunch etc.
